Leaving a villa empty in Spain: your departure checklist
Closing the door is not enough to prepare for several weeks away. In Jávea, sun, wind and rain make equipment maintenance and regular checks worth planning.

1. Secure access
Check doors, windows, gates and locks. Identify everyone holding keys and test any alarm systems.
2. Adjust water and electricity
Look for leaks, take meter readings and identify essential circuits. Shutting everything off may affect alarms, the pool or irrigation: ask the relevant professionals to adapt settings to your installations.
3. Prepare indoors and outdoors
Remove perishable food, arrange suitable ventilation and store wind-exposed furniture. Check drains, awnings and vulnerable areas.
4. Maintain the pool and garden
Agree visits, checks and instructions with contractors. Keep their contact details and ask them to flag anything unusual.
5. Arrange visits and your return
Decide who visits, what they check, how you receive updates and which expenses are authorised. Before returning, arrange preparation and equipment checks.
